Changing Strings

Before You Start

Tools
Before changing strings, you'll need a pair of pliers, a wire cutter, and a string winder.

Removing Strings
DO NOT remove all of the strings at once. The guitar neck is under a great deal tension when strung, and removing all of this tension at once can warp the neck. It's better to replace one string at a time.

Selecting the Type of Strings

Before changing strings you need to buy the correct type for your instrument. The main types are acoustic, electric, and nylon. As long as you select the right type of strings, you shouldn't have any problems unless there's something wrong with the instrument itself. Stick to medium guage strings if you're unsure of what you want. Acoustic

Stretching the Strings

Strings that aren't properly stretched out will have a tendency to go out of tune. When changing strings, make sure to wind and unwind the string as you bring it up to pitch. When it is fially in pitch, pull the string away from the guitar body for a few seconds, release and retune.
